Rhode Island is a one-party consent state for recording calls. A 2026 notification act, read from the House bill text rather than the enrolled Act, requires notice when AI documents a visit, which is not an answering line duty.

This is a guide for clinic owners, not legal advice. Every line points to the law or the regulator's own page, checked on 2026-10-21. Where we could not confirm something, the page says so.
Under the statute below, the consent of one party to the call is enough. Federal law lets a party to a call record it, so the federal rule applies the same way here.
Rhode Island's Use of Artificial Intelligence by Healthcare Providers Notification Act (R.I. Gen. Laws 23-106-3, 2026) requires healthcare providers and facilities that use AI to document in-person or telehealth visits to notify patients of the use of AI for that sole purpose. It covers visit documentation only. We read the House bill text, not the enrolled Act.
The Rhode Island Data Transparency and Privacy Protection Act, effective 2026-01-01, does not apply to a covered entity or business associate as defined in 45 CFR 160.103, and it exempts protected health information under HIPAA. HIPAA still binds a covered clinic and its business associate vendor.
Rhode Island bars a telephonic seller from connecting an automatic-dialing-announcing device to a telephone line unless the subscriber has requested or consented to the message, or a live operator first obtains consent. It applies to a telephonic seller under the Telephone Sales Solicitation Act. The federal rules on AI-voice calls and texts apply as well.
We found no statement from the Rhode Island Board of Examiners in Dentistry on AI agents. Our check was a web search, not a search of the board's own site, so this is not proof of absence.
We found no statement from the Rhode Island Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline on AI agents. Our check was a web search, not a search of the board's own site, so this is not proof of absence.
The federal rule applies here; nothing specific to this place was found.
The ADA requires a public accommodation to provide effective real-time communication, including text telephones and FCC-approved relay systems. A clinic phone line answered by an AI agent must still work for a relay caller.
Aida opens every call with the recording notice your province or state needs, and says it is the practice's AI agent wherever you want it to. Request a demo with your clinic's rules in mind.
